Although from Peterborough who of course have a well established club I was unaware of the sport of Rink Hockey.
It was only when I got with my partner Martin, who also sits on the committee, that I was introduced to the world of learning to do skates up, smelly kit bags and all the good stuff that goes with it from watching his son Daniel play.
From day one I was welcomed into the club and you could see that it had a family feel to it and I brought into that and got to know people within not only Letchworth but other clubs too.
At first I was just an avid supporter but found an interest in time keeping and initially volunteered to assist on match days when I could and if it didn't clash with other fixtures I would be at with Martin and Daniel.
At the recent AGM I was made aware of the previous Safeguarding Officer Stepping down and as my daily working life is as a Teaching Assistant, I felt I was well placed with understanding of protocols and legislation to put my name forward.
I became aware that the u11 coach Becky Coates was also interested in taking the role on and after a discussion felt that we could share the role and so we were both voted on to the committee as LRHC Safeguarding Officers.
My role sees me concentrating on the DBS Certificates, ensuring everyone that needs one, has one and the renewal process is started in good time and reminders sent out to club members.
For my relatively short-time within the sport I can honestly say I wish I had known about it earlier; it's fast, exciting and you can tell that players and supporters alike love being part of club.
