I started playing roller hockey when I was 10.  

I attended some roller skating sessions at Fearnhill Sports Centre in Letchworth one summer holiday and that was where I met Andrew and Nigel and they invited me to come along to the club (I think this would have been in 1987).  From the minute I attended that first training session I loved it and Roller Hockey was a very big part of my life in my formative years until my mid-late twenties. 

During my playing career I have always played for Letchworth apart from when I was at University (where for three years I played for Retford).

I played for England in a number of international competitions including several European and World Championships during the 1990’s to early 2000’s.  

After a decade plus break I was part of the England Ladies National squad during 2015/16 hoping to earn a place in the England squad to attend the World Championships in Chile in 2016. Unfortunately it was not meant to be as we did not enter a team however it was a fantastic experience and I got pretty fit again!

There have been many fantastic experiences that I have had playing over the years with great teams and coaches.  The highlight of my playing career was probably when I took a year out before university and was able to really concentrate on improving my hockey. During this time I was able to play in a number of international competitions winning player of the tournament accolades which set me in good stead for the championships that year.  

I’ve also loved to play socially with the club too and have some great memories from where we took a team to Meinspitz, Germany one year and won the tournament to more recently (well about 5/6 years ago!) where I played in a Letchworth team that won the Eastern Counties cup.

Whilst I still put my skates on to play, I am now very happy coaching and looking forward to my U11’s team playing this season. I am also on the Club’s committee and share the role of Safeguarding Officer with Claire Crane.

The club gave me so much when I was growing up that it really is a privilege to give something back and help future generations enjoy the sport.
