My partner and I discovered Rink Hockey and the Letchworth Rink Hockey Club by chance at the North Herts Leisure Centre, when our son was 4 years old, and we watched part of a tournament held in the Sports Hall on that day, which got us hooked! 

I became involved with the club, when he started playing a few years later in 2018. My daughter also started playing rink hockey 4 years ago and as a family we are all really passionate about this sport and really enjoy being part of this great club! 

For a while, I helped as a team assistant, as timekeeper for home tournaments and games, and I refereed at the U11 level, before starting serving as a committee member in 2020.

My involvement on the committee is as Grants Manager, which is to find funds through grant schemes to help develop the club and its players. It is a time consuming but very rewarding role! 

In 2021, we were successful in securing a Return To Play Small Grant from Sports England, which allowed the club to buy 20 pairs of beginners’ skates for new members and pay for venue hire without having to raise our members’ subscriptions when we restarted training after the various lockdowns. 

We have also been very fortunate in being selected for the local North Herts Community Lottery scheme, which allows anyone playing the lottery to support local causes, LRHC, being one of them, in addition to potentially winning great prizes. 

The next important step for the club, which I would like to develop, is to work with local communities in Letchworth and North Herts and make the sport more widely accessible and affordable, by finding funds to help kids trying, starting and staying in the sport
